I’ve expressed my oober excitement and relief in finalizing a personal attendant. Yes, I am elated! Perhaps that’s why I feel as though I am a head of the game. Yes, it gave me that much of a sense of relief. However, what is a personal attendant? What are their roles? Is it a northern thing?
While personal attendants can vary from wedding to wedding, bride to bride they are unique in the fact that they can be essentially what you would like them to be. If you want someone to be in charge of setting up the reception hall, run errands or wear a “tool belt” of wedding tools it can be included in a personal attendant’s role.
The beauty of a personal attendant may be that you can ask them to go to the moon and back. The trick to the perfection, yes, there is a trick, you have to pick the right person. The one who is a self-starter, has attention to detail and who not only knows what you want, but also what you don’t.
Responsibilities of a personal attendant may include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinating the wedding party to be at the right place at the right time.
- Making sure you eat amongst the madness.
- The main contact for all vendors.
- Set up the reception hall
- Coordinate decoration of church
- Take photos of hidden moments
- Stand guard for unwanted guests in the bridal prep room
- Execute w-day plans
- Transfer gifts from table to appropriate storage/transportation
- Pick-up last-minute items
- Provide a sense of ‘relaxation’ for the couple
A personal attendant is a great way to include someone in your wedding family without having to extend your party by two – bridesmaid and groomsmen. It’s a great way to relieve yourself of some duties for the day-of. And no, do not think of this as a selfishly bad thing. It’s your day. For once, you do not, you should not be responsible for anything other than you and enjoying your day; taking in every moment possible.
When it comes down to it, personal attendants are what you, and your personal attendant themselves, wants to be. For myself, my personal attendant is replacing me for the day. Providing support, coordination and sharing in the excitement of the day. And, I’ve got some extra specialness up my sleeve – per usual.
